Basic Photography

Basic Photography

Photography is derived from the Greek language basically meaning “light writing” and first became known in the 1800's by Sir John Herschel. For many years prior to this invention, people had discovered ways of causing certain chemicals to change color when exposed to light but they did not discover ways of getting the images to remain permanent until much later.

Nowadays photography forms a big part of our culture and is something that everyone recognizes. Most people have family photos lying around their house while many people take these photos on a regular basis ensuring that these precious memories are savored for years to come.

You may ask what basic photography is? Well, photography is defined as “The art or process of producing images by the action of light on surfaces sensitized by chemical processes.” Luckily the individual doesn't have to deal with this technical definition, seeing that they usually take their photographs to a lab to be processed/developed.

On top of this there is also "instant develop photographs", more simply known as the Polaroid, in which the paper itself contains the chemicals needed for the photo to develop when it's exposed to sunlight.

The most commonly used types of film are 35mm and 110. These film rolls come in different speeds that are meant for different lighting and situations that are loaded into your camera, e.g. action photo's, photo's of the sunset, etc. After the film is full, it is simply taken to be developed.

Different types of photography include:

Artistic photography - photojournalism - documentary photography - portrait photography - event photography - family photography - nature photography - advertising photography - underwater photography - satellite photography and more.

On the one hand photography is a common hobby or pastime for many people but then again it is a career for many other people and because of this photography has taken off in leaps and bounds. We can see that in the most recent revelations in photography, namely the digital camera and digital photo. Digital photos have become increasingly popular because people no longer have to deal with film and developing due to the fact digital photos can be downloaded onto a computer and viewed instantly.

TODAY'S NEWS:

You can share these digital photos on the web, through email and they can also be saved on CDs. Most of the digital cameras come with LCD screens so the photos can be viewed from the camera itself. This helps to correct any flaws that may have occurred when taking the photo's. Digital cameras are advancing every day and new technology is released on each one.

Digital cameras can range from anything between $20 to $1,000. This may seem like a lot of money but when compared to the price of film and developing, you can save a lot in the long term by obtaining a digital camera. You can also make as many copies as you like by saving it on your pc, compact disk or even sending the photo's via e-mail.
